After the passing of Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister on December 28, a petition was created to rename the Jack and Coke — his favorite drink — in his honor. The petition calls for the drink to be renamed the Lemmy. Currently, it has 40, 351 supporters.

- Deep Purple are planning on recording a new album, with sessions beginning in January.
- Heart hope to record and release new material for the first time since 2012’s Fanatic. Ann Wilson said in an interview that she will likely still tour in support of her side project, The Ann Wilson Thing, but a great deal of 2016 will be spent working with Heart.
- Phil Collins announced that he will be releasing remastered versions of 1982’s Hello, I Must Be Going! and 1996’s Dance Into the Light on February 26.
- Steven Tyler is reportedly releasing a new country single, “Red White & You,” for radio airplay on January 25.
- David Bowie released his latest album, Blackstar, on January 8. It is available for download and on streaming services.

- Robert Stigwood, manager to Cream and the Bee Gees, passed away at the age of 81 on January 4, 2016. Along with managing these groups, Stigwood also played an instrumental role in releasing many musical films, such as Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Jesus Christ Superstar.
