REBEAT News Roundup (June 6 – June 19)
Breaking news
In our last News Roundup, we mentioned the upcoming sequel to 1979’s film version of Quadrophenia, based on the Who’s double album of the same name.
The film, though, does not have the blessing of the Who themselves. In a statement released by Bill Curbishley, the band’s manager, said:
“Quadrophenia has an enduring appeal and will forever be the definitive mod film[…] Quadrophenia is a significant and influential film based on The Who’s music, not some Carry On franchise. Any follow-up to this film could only be made by the authors of the original and would need to be worthy of the name. This karaoke sequel announced recently in the press would be totally ridiculous.”
Additionally, Curbishley said that many of the original actors — namely Sting and Ray Winstone — would not be involved in the film. It is rumored, though, that Toyah Wilcox and Phil Daniels would appear in the film.
