GIVEAWAY: Win Tickets to the Kweskin Jug Band at City Winery, NYC on 7/20!
On Monday, July 20, the Kweskin Jug Band is storming City Winery in New York City. For those who don’t know, Jim Kweskin is an American singer, bandleader, and an institution in bring the jug band genre to mainstream America. His famed Jug Band were trailblazers in the ’60s folk revival with songs like “The Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives To Me” and “Rag Mama,” and dabbled in blues and jazz styles, launching the careers of not only Kweskin, but also Geoff and Maria Muldaur and Fritz Richmond. “Their imitators were legion, including a San Francisco jug band that became the Grateful Dead and a New York jug band that became the Lovin’ Spoonful,” says City Winery, “but no other group attained their unique blend of youthful energy and antiquarian expertise, tight musicianship, loose camaraderie, and infectious swing.”
After an unprecedentedly heralded reunion last year, Kweskin and the Jug Band are back once again, performing a string of shows in Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
