AJOBO: Aftermath

Well, hello from the rock ‘n’ roll capital of the world — and my home planet — Cleveland! Susan Ryan (who wrote the preview of the Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans last week) and I are spending a couple of days here before finally slogging back home to New York from the Fest.

And what a Fest it was! Thanks to everyone who came out to our Women Historians panel on Saturday afternoon, and special thanks to those (including Mark Lewisohn and his lovely wife, Anita) who picked up some REBEAT swag afterward! If you caught author Al Sussman this weekend, he was proudly modeling one of our buttons, and gave us a wonderful plug Friday night on the main stage. Thanks, Al!

Fests always pass by in a blur: rushing around between panels, concerts, interviews, seeing friends in the marketplace and running into folks in the halls. It felt like this weekend was condensed into a very busy hour. I’ll definitely never forget the almost sinful amount of fun packed into every minute, and the amazing people that made it great. You know who you are…

Unfortunately, my cell reception was nill in the panel rooms and spotty in the ballroom, not to mention my phone siphons its battery like a succubus. I promise to upload a slew of my photos to our Instagram in the coming days. I hope you were following us on Twitter for some cool live tweets! (If not, it’s never too late to go read them.)

Anyway, I’ll stop gushing about the awesomeness that was the Fest and give you the weekly menu!

This Week on REBEAT!

– Part two of Sally O’Rourke’s tour through the post-Motown career of songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland. If you missed the first part (shame on you!), click here and catch up. As a reminder, this is the second of seven parts, so be sure to check back every week for a new installment.

– Every wonder what’s behind our fabulous rotating banners at the top of every page? Why do they change? What do they represent? Rob Ross explains the influences behind them, plus some juicy tidbits that ever label nerd can enjoy. See, there’s a method to our madness!

– In a special RAVER (but aren’t all of them special in their own way?), we’re spotlighting a British duo who were instrumental (heh) during the first wave of the British Invasion and throughout the 1960s. Next week, we’ll be posting an exclusive new interview with one half of the pair. Can you guess who it might be? Hint: It’s not Peter and Gordon.

So long. Farewell. Auf Weidersehen. Goodbye,

-AJB
