AJOBO: Beatles Week!
Because dating the titles of your posts is so last month.
Welcome to REBEAT‘s first-ever Beatles week in anticipation of this weekend’s Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans!
I’m pretty excited. The Chicago Fest looms large in my Beatles fan legend. (Does that makes sense? No, right? Trying to be Beatlish…) For years, my friends would tell me unbelievable stories of chance encounters and shenanigans, and I would watch with jealousy as their texts and photos rolled in. Not this year! Hopefully my first Chicago Fest will be as memorable as my last two in New York.
If you’re going to the Fest, make sure to check out the Women Historians panel on Saturday at 4:15pm. Yours truly will be a panelist along with some very esteemed women authors (Kit O’Toole), bloggers (Sara Schmidt of Meet the Beatles for Real), tour guides (Susan Ryan), and more.
Regardless, find me and say hello! I’ll have some of our ~new REBEAT stickers and buttons~ for you!
If you can’t attend, I’ll be that jerk posting photos on our Facebook and Instagram, and tweeting all the cool things happening. Make sure you’re following us on social media, because I have a hunch that you’ll see some exclusives there over the weekend…
Speaking of Facebook, on Saturday, we hit 200 fans, and at this column’s press time, we’re now up to 250! To celebrate, we ran our first ever giveaway for some of those cool buttons and stickers you see above. Congratulations to Donna Reusser of Akron, Ohio, for winning! Don’t despair if you’re not Donna; that’s only the first of many, many contests!
We’ve got all kinds of Beatle goodies coming up this week, so, without further ado…
This Week on REBEAT!
– Pamela takes us through some criminally underrated Beatles gems, while, toward the end of the week, look for a very Beatley edition of RAVER, spotlighting the Beatles arrival in America in 1964, and a JUKEBOX inspired by the Fab Four. Plus, the aforementioned Beatles expert Susan Ryan ranks the top 10 things not to be missed at this year’s Chicago Beatles Fest!
– Two extra-special reviews of concerts in New York City last week: Emmylou Harris at Lincoln Center and the Zombies’ powerhouse performance at B.B. King Blues Club.
– The debut of an exciting new series exclusive to REBEAT: over the next seven weeks, Sally O’Rourke takes us through Holland-Dozier-Holland: The Complete 45s, a new, 14-disc box set of every single penned by the legendary songwriting team that scored hits for many Motown artists, including the Supremes, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, the Four Tops, and Marvin Gaye. You won’t want to miss this in-depth look at the dynamic trio’s body of work.
See you in Chicago!
