AJOBO: Creepy Halloween Costumes To Avoid

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday, probably because October is my favorite month. Okay, and because I have a perverse love of spooky stuff — from cemeteries, to ghosts, to kitschy novelty tunes. I’ve even been known to indulge myself in a Ghost Hunters marathon from time to time (though, I admit, I reserve a healthy dose of skepticism for any sort of program with advertising dollars resting on making dead people speak into a recorder).

I’ve always been less interested in the party vibe of Halloween than the actual scary side, so I rarely dress up. This year, however, I’m bouncing between parties as one of Roy Lichtenstein’s famous comic-inspired paintings. Last week, I conducted a trial of my makeup with promising results:

Let’s just hope everything stays in place and I won’t end up looking like a melted box of crayons by the end of the night!

My costume (complete with polka-dot vintage blouse, jacket, and skirt, natch) might not be scary, but this batch of photos from the 1960s is sure to make your skin crawl. Seriously, how has no one made a horror movie with the premise of terrifying costumes of the past 100 years?

But, the most horrifying costumes of all?

Stereotypical ’60s hippies! AAAHH!

This Week on REBEAT!

– This month marks the 50th anniversary of The T.A.M.I. Show, a concert featuring a killer lineup of stars from the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys to James Brown and Lesley Gore. We’ll take a look back at the filmed spectacular, including its 50th anniversary DVD release.

– Reviews galore! From the Everly Brothers tribute concert last week in Cleveland, to two expertly written account of the Beatles and more, we’ve got a lot to say about what’s out there now.

– Continuing the Halloween spirit, I’ll be penning my very first JUKEBOX later this week with a group of retro Halloween goodies and generally toe-curling tunes just in time for your very own spooktacular shindig.
