AJOBO: REBEAT on the Radio
If you’ve never heard Jude Kessler’s John Lennon Hour radio program, you’re in for a treat. Jude (I’m breaking the Journalistic Code of Last Names Only because I consider her a friend), who’s written a trilogy of painstakingly researched biographies of John Lennon, hosts a weekly show dedicated to all things Beatles. Her guests range from fellow authors to musicians to prominent Beatle-people, and her coverage includes current events, historical happenings, and so much more.
It was truly my honor to be a guest on her show last Thursday. To say I was a bit nervous to share the hour-long slot with the legendary Bill King, publisher of Beatlefan, the longest-running Beatles publication of all time, is an understatement. Luckily, Jude’s Southern charm has a way of making her guests feel at ease, and I so enjoyed talking about REBEAT with her, even though I think I’m still more comfortable as an inteviewER and not an interviewEE.
If you missed the original, live airing, you can hear the archived version at this link. We discuss some of REBEAT’s Beatles coverage, how the magazine came to be, and what’s in store for the future. I definitely recommend following the show if you can, since, like I said, Jude really does her homework and brings on only the best of the best in the Beatles world.
This Week on REBEAT!
– In celebration of the British Invasion tour, we’re spotlighting our favorite British Invasion songs and artists in a special Staff Picks. Speaking of which, have you bought your tickets yet? They’re going fast! Find the full schedule of performance dates here.
– We’ll take a look at some new releases from Real Gone Music, including a reissue from the legendary Bobby Lance, and spectacular Apollo Theatre-related gem. We can say no more (for now).
– If you remember the 1970s, you remember that, while the decade brought us cultural stalwarts like The Godfather, shag carpeting, and pet rocks, it was also hallmarked by its distinct ’50s throwback. We’ll examine that phenomenon in a special feature later this week.
