Now, let’s take a look at what you’ll win!

Beatleness: How the Beatles and Their Fans Remade the World by Candy Leonard

A sociologist, Candy Leonard examines the Beatlemania phenomenon from the perspective of first-generation fans. Beatleness takes the reader through the ’60s, from the Beatles’ first appearance on Ed Sullivan to their breakup in 1970, examining fan reactions and anecdotes from the people who lived it. An added bonus is a closer look into the time, particularly how lives were changing in the early Sixties and how the world helped to set the stage for the British Invasion. In her review last month, REBEAT contributor Susan Ryan called the book a “masterful job in presenting a true popular study of the Beatles from the point of view of the most important people — their fans.”

Recipe Records Cookbook series by Lanea Stagg

Who doesn’t need a new arsenal of recipes for the holidays? Lanea Stagg takes it one step further in her series of cookbooks comprised of recipes inspired by music. (Think dishes called “Ain’t Too Proud to Egg,” “Let It Brie,” “Another One Bites the Crust,” and more.) The winner of this giveaway will receive a copy of the original Recipe RecordsRecipe Records: A Culinary Tribute to the Beatles, and Recipe Records: The ’60s Edition.

Changin’ Times: 101 Days That Shaped a Generation by Al Sussman

In Changin’ Times, Al Sussman investigates the period of time between President John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963 and the Beatles’ arrival in the United States in February 1964. Some argue that Kennedy’s murder was an important catalyst of Beatlemania, and make the case that it may never even have happened without the tragedy that preceded it. Sussman goes deeper into the psyche of a nation and takes a closer look into some of the “media-fueled myths” and historical events that set the proverbial dominoes in place for the British Invasion.

Shoulda Been There by Jude Southerland Kessler

A longtime Beatles historian, writer, and host of The John Lennon Radio Hour, Jude Southerland Kessler spent 20 years researching information and collecting first-person anecdotes and interviews before even setting pen to paper on Shoulda Been There, the first in her series of books on John Lennon’s life. Spanning 1940-1961, Shoulda Been There packs an intimate glimpse into Lennon’s formative years into 800 pages, including biographies of key players in his life, as well as a “Scouse Glossary.”

BONUS! The winner of this giveaway will also receive a “Doors of Liverpool” poster with photographs shot by Jude’s husband, Rande Kessler. (Also signed!)

The Beatle Who Vanished by Jim Berkenstadt

In 1964, Ringo Starr fell ill and was hospitalized for a tonsillectomy. The Beatles’ tour looked doomed, until in stepped an unknown drummer by the name of Jimmie Nichol. Though he was only with the band 13 days, his is a name well-known by the Beatles community around the globe. Yet, after his 15 minutes of fame, Nichol inexplicably vanished. Jim Berkenstadt, who bills himself as the Rock And Roll Detective® because of his passion for sussing out the real stories and people in music, profiles this enigmatic figure in Beatles lore for the first time ever, drawing on interviews with Nichol himself.

Confessions of a Beatlemaniac by Dee Elias

Drawn from Elias’ diary from January 1, 1964 onward, Confessions of a Beatlemaniac is a real-time memoir of a typical Midwestern first-generation Beatles fan experiencing the initial onslaught of the Fab Four’s arrival in the United States. When the Beatles arrived in Cleveland, Ohio, the author’s hometown, she and her friends decided they were going to meet their idols — no matter what. As for what happened, you might just have to read the book!
